What should I do with the V16 emergency beacon in the event of an accident?

As of January 1, 2026, the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) will make the use of a connected V16 emergency light device mandatory for signaling accidents, breakdowns, and emergency situations on Spanish roads.

This device replaces the old emergency triangles and significantly improves the vehicle's visibility in case of an emergency stop, also automatically transmitting its geolocation to the official DGT 3.0 platform.

All vehicles registered in Spain within the Europcar fleet will be equipped with the approved and connected V16 beacon starting from January 1, 2026.

Vehicles registered outside of Spain are not subject to this obligation.
